Smallhoder farmers make up the majority of producers in Papua New Guinea, and most manage 1-2 hectares of coffee independtly. Within the Jikawa province, about 1500 of them send their coffee to the Kindeng Mill. About 20% of the this part of the country’s production comes from this province, and coffee makes up most of the economy in this region.
Sourcing coffee in Papua New Guinea can be very challenging. Within a relatively small area, there are numerous, distinct indigenous populations, eaech with it’s own set of linguistic and cultural challenges.
